   The history of Alberobello was born in a rural landscape of fields, forests, and limestone rock. For centuries, farmers and shepherds mainly inhabited this area. The name Alberobello is believed to derive from a large tree surrounded by a stone structure and described as being of “extraordinary size,” known as Alberobello. In the past, this area was covered with woodland and farmland used for agricultural activities. From this rural environment, the town we know today gradually emerged.
